CYPWOTL - Could you please walk on the left

It might seem like such a little thing but as our population increases, our footpaths get smaller.  Unfortunately people seem to give little thought to this fact which makes use of the footpath difficult and sometimes dangerous.

Let's consider some footpath manners.

  1. Should we consistently walk on one side of the footpath?  What side in Australia should that be?
  2. Should we really walk multiple people abreast across the width of the path?
  3. Should we walk down the middle of the path inconveniencing everyone?
  4. Should a bike be "walked" when on a footpath?
My feelings are:

  1. Yes we should walk on a specific side, and as we drive on the left, so we should walk.
  2. It is quite easy to talk whilst walking a small step behind, and taking up more than half the path is really inconsiderate.
  3. A real no-no!  The same conceit as driving in the middle of the road although it probably shows a stupidity.
  4. Yes it should.  Our parks and footpaths are alternative "freeways" for bike-riders.  If they so like the trip through the park or along the paths they can walk their bikes.
We don't want the nanny state to legislate how to use our footpaths so it is about us using consideration and manners.  So get thinking please?
